At the end of Act I Scene 2 of The Tempest, Miranda has met the shipwrecked Ferdinand, and is much impressed. Prospero, however, voices his suspicion that Ferdinand might be a treacherous spy. Ferdinand denies it and Miranda weighs in with There's nothing ill can dwell in such a temple: If the ill spirit have so fair a house, Good things will strive to dwell with't. "Temple" here means a container. A temple is a building to house a god; a person's body houses his or her spirit. Thus a person's body is the temple of his spirit. This is the metaphor that Miranda uses. She says that such a good-looking man could not have an evil spirit, as Prospero accuses Ferdinand of having, because a fair exterior will attract a good spirit. If Miranda had known more than two men previously (she appears to count Caliban as a man) she might not have jumped so quickly to this dangerous conclusion.
Prospero says this in Act 1 Scene 2 of The Tempest:They are both in either's powers; but this swift businessI must uneasy make, lest too light winningMake the prize light.[To FERDINAND]One word more; I charge theeThat thou attend me: thou dost here usurpThe name thou owest not; and hast put thyselfUpon this island as a spy, to win itFrom me, the lord on't.He sees that both Miranda and Ferdinand have fallen in love with the other. He means to slow down the romance to ensure that Ferdinand appreciates what he is getting.

He wishes Ferdinand and Miranda to marry as part of his plot to restore himself (and Miranda) to their rightful place in the Duchy of Milan. In engineering Ferdinand and Miranda's romance, Prospero realises that "too light winning" (getting Miranda's hand too easily) will "make the prize light" (he'll get bored and take her for granted, and move onto his next conquest.) So Prospero is rude and obnoxious to Ferdinand, making him into a servant and pretending to think he's a spy, in order to make him work for Miranda's affection, so he was to win her hand through great hardship and effort - therefore wanting to keep her. So in summary: he's rude to Ferdinand because he understands male psychology! - and he wants Ferdinand not to have to work to earn Miranda's love.
