He must have had a grammar school education because he knew how to write secretary hand and was familiar with the texts which grammar school students would learn. There would be little point in going to a school out of town as he would have to pay for his board, while if he were at the local school he could be a day student. And besides, his father would have access to a bursary because he was a councillor in town. Unfortunately attendance records for this period of the school's history (it is still a going concern) have been lost, but it seems most likely that Shakespeare attended there.

What school did Shakespeare attend?

He didn't. This has been a thorn in the sides of certain people for centuries, starting with Greene calling him an "upstart crow" in 1592. (Greene and many of the other playwrights of the time, including Marlowe, were University Men) Some people insist that Shakespeare couldn't have written his plays because he hadn't been to University, and so couldn't be smart enough to know the things he knew.

What was William Shakespeare's grammar school?

The grammar school in Stratford, then called the King's New School had been founded by King Edward VI (Queen Elizabeth I's brother). Shakespeare probably attended it from the ages of 9 to 15 or so, from 1573 to 1579. However there is no documentation to prove that he even went to that school, never mind when. We can only guess from what was typical and from the fact that he had a good knowledge of the schoolbooks of the era.

When was Shakespeare born and where did he get his education?

Shakespeare was born shortly before April 26, 1564, when he was baptised. A lot of people think it was on April 23. This is certainly possible. Shakespeare probably went to The King`s New School, a grammar school in Stratford which is now known as Edward VI School. However the records of the time when Shakespeare would have attended that school have been destroyed, so we can't prove it. Shakespeare had no post-secondary education, and may not have fininshed Grammar school because his father stopped being an alderman and no longer had access to the scholarship which would have paid William's fees.

How many people attended Shakespeare's play?

300

Was William Shakespeare an open minded person?

It is of course hard to judge people's personalities from a distance of 400 years, especially when there are no personal diaries or letters to go by. However it is true that Shakespeare manages in his plays to make sympathetic characters out of just about everybody that he invents, and they cover all kinds of humanity--rich and poor, noble and common, male and female, old and young, clever and foolish. Even the most evil characters have their moments when our hearts go out to them. A closed-minded person would have difficulty in seeing into the hearts of so many different kinds of people.

What do we know about Shakespeare's basic schooling?

Nada. Only what we can guess, based on the fact that he obviously could read, and had a familiarity with all of the authors that people studied in grammar school back then. We assume that he went to the King's New Grammar school in Stratford because there was noplace else where he might have gone. There are no school records to confirm it.

How well was Shakespeare with grammar?

Shakespeare's grammar was excellent. Latin grammar was the mainstay of the school curriculum in those days. He understood and used complex sentence structures. His grammar was superior to most people nowadays, as witness the use in this question of the verbal phrase "to be well with" something which is not idiomatic English.
