Shakespeare was a world-class poet and playwright. He wrote more than thirty plays, a dozen of which are among the best ever written. He wrote over a hundred and fifty sonnets, many of which are among the best in the English language. His work has been translated into virtually every known language on earth. His plays have been in constant production since they were first performed. His characters provide actors with their best opportunities to show their abilities, and even though the plays were written four hundred years ago, the human values remain the same as any written by a contemporary playwright or screenwriter.
