In Act IV Scene I he says to Paris, "On Thursday, sir? The time is very short." and "You say you do not know the lady's mind. Uneven is the course; I like it not." Neither of these is the real reason why he does not like the marriage (although the fact that the groom has no idea whether the bride wants to marry him or not is a pretty good objection). When Paris says "Now you know the reason for this haste", the Friar says in an aside, "I would I knew not why it should be slowed." The real reason why the Friar does not like these wedding plans is that he is one of only five people who know that the proposed bride is in fact already married and the proposed marriage is bigamous and illegal, an offence in the sight of man and God. (The fifth person who knows this is Balthazar, as we find out at the beginning of Act 5)
