At the beginning of the play Romeo is a caricature of the Elizabethan concept of a lovesick male. He is all about melancholy and pining. He is antisocial, listless and irrational - all the symptoms of lovesickness. He is lovesick, at the beginning of the play, because he is in love with Rosaline, who has chosen a life of chastity.
The young man who is in love with Roseline is Romeo (before he met Juliet)
Mercutio - his friend.

They are not really worried, but they know what kind of letter it is: a challenge to a fight. However, there is no reason to believe that Romeo had received the letter, since it was sent to his home, and he has not been home all night and has spent the morning getting himself married to Juliet.

Benvolio advises his lovesick cousin, Romeo, to move on and find another woman who can replace his current love interest, Rosaline. He suggests that Romeo attend the Capuletβs party to compare Rosaline to other women and hopefully forget about her. Benvolio believes that seeing other women will help Romeo realize that there are plenty of other options for love.
