I'd say he's so successful because he's really funny, he's a much better musician than people realize, he works extremely hard at making everything he does the best it can be (he's a bit of a perfectionist), his band are excellent musicians who can play any style of music, and he's just a really nice guy who genuinely likes and appreciates his fans, and treats them consistently with friendliness and respect.
Also, because he's parodying current hit music, he's always pulling in new fans.
