OS is very essential software in computer system. It is collection of many programs that provides a suitable environment for user to interact with the hardware of the computer. It provides commands to user to activate computer parts. Without OS computer is no more than a show piece and a home without mother. A human being without spirit and electric equipments without electricity.
OS controls and coordinates computerr parts as well as all the activities in computer system. It manages memory, files, instruction execution, scheduling etc. It provides suitable environment for processes to execute their instructions.
In earlier days of computer there was no operating system than it was very difficult to operate computers.
