On June 15th 2017, Fran Drescher said in an interview the show's demise started when Maxwell & Fran began their romance. The 'will-they-won't-they' romantic/sexual tension was gone & the basic idea of the show was gone. Fran went to the writers to try to convince them to not get the two characters together but CBS threatened to cancel the series if they didn't which of course they decided to do anyway.
