Because they used the stars to navigate. Also the stars worked like a compass because if you know where the north star is you would probably know where east, west and south are.

People also believed that the various components of the universe were linked in simple cause-and-effect ways, so the actions of the stars had consequences in the lives of individuals. This belief is called Astrology and was particularly strong in Shakespeare's time. Shakespeare both used that belief symbolically (in Romeo and Juliet) and made fun of it (in King Lear).

The Globe Playhouse, constructed in 1599, was the largest and most sumptuous theatre built in London to that date. Previously the Lord Chamberlain's Men had been working from The Curtain playhouse, another theatre owned by the Burbage family in the northern suburbs of London. Shakespeare had invested some money in the building of the Globe, the first investment of this kind he had made. More than that, the Globe was built as a challenge to the Chamberlain's rivals, the Lord Admiral's Men, who were then operating out of the smaller and older Rose Theatre. The Admiral's men had been up to this point the premier acting company in London, with the best actor (Edward Alleyn) and the best playwright (Marlowe). After the Globe was built, the Admiral's Men responded by building the even bigger Fortune Theatre in the north, but they were from that point on the second-best company in London.

Shakespeare was one of the most significant playwrights in his time, and his innovations in playwriting, especially in plotting and characterization influenced later playwrights. He was also a well-known actor and poet, although he was not as innovative in these fields as in playwriting.
