The fairies represent the forces of nature and of the irrational. They can make magical and incomprehensible things happen which in the light of day seem like a dream. They represent the path to true love as opposed to the stern Athenian law which seems designed to frustrate it
Fairies are all different and have their own favourites. For example, there are fairies who drink blood from people, animals and even their own kinds. Some drink normal water and milk - they drink different things.
The setting is in New York
Fairies as such appear only in a Midsummer Night's Dream, although in The Merry Wives of Windsor a lot of people dress up as fairies. Shakespeare seems to waffle between the idea that fairies were teeny-weeny, could sit in acorns and so on, and the idea that they looked just like people, which was necessary since ordinary-sized actors had to play Titania, Oberon, Puck and so on. They were of course magical, especially good at changing the appearance of things and messing with people's minds. Like changing Bottom's head to look like a donkey, for example.
Oberon wants Titania to wake and fall in love with something vile as part of a scheme to distract her and regain control over a changeling boy she is caring for. By using the magic flower's potion, he aims to humiliate her and make her more compliant to his wishes. This manipulation reflects the themes of power and desire in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," showcasing the complexities of love and control in relationships. Ultimately, Oberon's actions are driven by jealousy and a desire for dominance.
He doesn't. It is Titania who orders the fairies around, saying things like "Fairies, skip hence" and "Fairies, away."
In "A Midsummer Night's Dream," mermaids are not mentioned. Fairies, however, play a significant role as mischievous magical beings that meddle in the affairs of the human characters. While both mermaids and fairies are associated with enchantment and the supernatural, fairies in the play are more closely connected to the themes of love, transformation, and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy.

She's a pretty forceful person, but also sentimental. She wants to keep the Indian boy because she has a sentimental attachment to him, because his mother was a favourite of Titania's and died. She is also forgiving--she forgives Oberon completely for setting her up romantically with a jackass. Her general attitude is benevolent, as is Oberon's. Both basically want things to go well for the mortals.
