often, actors practiced "cue scripting"- they were fed their lines from offstage. An actor generally would not know their lines or the plot unitl the play was being performed. They were no women, either- young boys played female roles. Mostly the theatres were outdoors, until "playhouses" started being built, which were indoors. The reputation of an actor was bad, generally being thought of as lowly or scum.
