The advice "when in doubt tell the truth" is not a question, therefore it doesn't have an answer. I do agree that it is generally a good thing to tell the truth, and I endeavor to do so in the various answers that I post here.
Proverbial truth refers to the underlying wisdom or lesson contained in a proverb or saying that is universally accepted as true or valid based on common knowledge or experience. It signifies a belief or idea that is widely recognized and accepted as good advice or guiding principle.
The pursuit of truth is generally admirable and important for personal growth and understanding of the world. However, there may be situations where pursuing truth could cause harm or conflict, so it's important to consider the context and potential consequences of seeking truth in each situation.
An allegory is a narrative in which characters and events represent abstract ideas or moral qualities, often with a deeper symbolic meaning. A fable is a short story typically featuring animals as characters that conveys a moral lesson or message. A proverb, on the other hand, is a simple and traditional saying that expresses a truth based on practical experience or common sense, often in a concise and memorable way. While all three forms of literature convey moral lessons, they differ in their narrative structure and presentation of moral teachings.
While honesty generally involves telling the truth, it is possible for a person to be honest but still not always tell the truth. Honesty is about being truthful and sincere in one's actions and intentions, but there may be situations where a person chooses not to disclose certain information or tells a white lie for various reasons.

Animals giving advice to humans or illustrating human behaviors is termed a "fable." The most famous of these are Aesop's Fables.Similarly, fables will often have plants or natural forces (wind, rain, Sun, etc.) giving advice to people. For the most part, it is also expected that the advice or the truth illustrate a "moral" or "ethical" truth about people in general.
