enlightened one

Siddhartha means "one who gets what he desires" In the sense that "he thinks and it happens such a powerful person. Now, Shddhodana Prince Siddhartha's father named him thus after having heard the prediction from his Court Astrolgers that his child will either grow to be powerful Emperor of a Powerful Philosopher who will take the world with him. A kShatriya his father i.e Shddhodana was not for seeing his son become a sanyasi/mendicant however great he may become as seen by the world. So, in order to preclude the possiblity of his child becoming a mendicant/recluse/ascetic Shuddhodana named him "Siddhartha" so that the repetition fo the word creates that kind of an effect, and his son would choose to become an Emperor ratehr than a recluse. Even Prince Siddhartha grew up into a fine and well rounded Price mastrering all the Martial and other arts expected of offsprings of Kings! But destiny was otherwise intended so he became The Buddha - The Enlightened One"
