Herdonism (n.) - an awareness of institutionalized forces who seek to discourage the pursuit of individual liberty, while emboldening the more easily-controlled collective.
While hedonism promotes the pursuit of pleasure as the highest good, for tomorrow is not guaranteed, herdonism encourages balance between the joyous and harsh aspects of life. Embracing both forces us to face our deepest fears, reconcile with the things outside of our mortal control, and find happiness in simplistic solitude. Out of this transformative journey, something less tangible but more enduring can emerge for the individual.
