Depends on the time period. Most people in the north started to believe that slavery was unneeded, and eventually that it was wrong. Many people in the south believed the same thing, but they also had a lot of land they had to care for. And some on both sides believed it was their right.
People in the South justified the continuation of slavery by arguing that it was essential for their economy and way of life, that slaves were racially inferior and needed guidance, and that slavery was sanctioned in the Bible. This belief in the superiority of white people and the economic benefits of slavery led many in the South to defend its continuation.
No, not all white people believed in slavery. There were white individuals who were against slavery and fought for its abolition. Additionally, there were free African Americans and indigenous peoples who also opposed slavery.
Pro slavery refers to the advocacy or support for the institution of slavery, where individuals believe in owning and exploiting other people as property. Anti slavery, on the other hand, opposes the practice of slavery and advocates for the abolition of slavery, promoting equality and freedom for all individuals.
They didn't have to justify slavery. In their minds it was just the way it was. (Just for the record... yes, I believe that it was wrong) Think of it this way... there is a country that currently practices changing the position of teeth in their children's mouths by using metal to twist and adjust them... it is common practice and it is painful at times... as horrible as this might sound.. It is called "getting braces" and many teens in the U.S. and other places have this done. It is all in a mind set of what people are accustomed to.
Most people in the north did not believe that slavery was right and people in the south disagreed and it became a controversy of whether slavery is right or not, so the north and south fought each other to resolve the conflict.
the south didn't,don't believe me watch Ruby Bridges.
I believe you are a bit mixed up. The South wanted slavery.
If you believe in equal rights, the South was. If you believe in justice, the North was. Many people think that was on slavery. It wasn't! It started when the South didn't like state's rights and when they decided they wanted to secede from the U.S.
They were fighting because the north didn't believe in slavery and the south did. So the south got angry because the north was trying to banned slavery from all of the states. That is why we had the Civil War.
they wanted to keep slavery
The north didn't have slavery, but did have discrimination. The south did have active overt slavery where people were considered property.

North was against slavery, and south wanted more slavery. south wanted more slavery so they could work on the cotton fields. if more people work on cotton fields the south would have more money.
Mostly people in the South and people who were pro-slavery as Lincoln wished (and did) abolish slavery.
