The effective resistance of the combination is the reciprocal of [ (1/20) + (1/60) + (1/40) ].

(1/20) + (1/60) + (1/40) = (6/120) + (2/120) + (3/120) = (11/120)

The effective resistance is (120/11) = 10.91 ohms(rounded)

It makes no difference what the resistors are connected across, or what its voltage is, or

whether it's another passive network, or whether they're connected across anything at all,

or whether they've sunk to the bottom of the parts drawer. Their effective resistance is

still roughly 10.91 ohms.

I = E/R = 120/60 = 2 amperes.

It doesn't matter what else is in parallel with the 60-ohm resistor, as long as the power supply

is capable of the total current in all three branches, and the 120 volts doesn't 'sag'.
