Einstein showed that all matter is equivalent to energy, and deduced the equation E = mc2. However getting matter to give up this energy requires the right matter and the right conditions. We know there are two ways to obtain it, by fusion and by fission. Fusion is the way the stars produce energy, and this can be made to happen with light elements, isotopes of hydrogen are the easiest to activate. Fission happens with heavy elements like uranium and plutonium, and releases energy we can use in power plants.

No, so far only some ships have nuclear energy.

What basic form of energy is present in radioactive substances?

Radioactive substances primarily contain nuclear energy, which is released during the decay of atomic nuclei. This energy arises from the strong nuclear force that holds protons and neutrons together in the nucleus. When these nuclei decay, they emit radiation in the form of alpha particles, beta particles, or gamma rays, converting some of the nuclear energy into other forms of energy.

What runs on nuclear energy?

Nuclear energy is typically used to generate electricity through nuclear power plants. Ships and submarines also use nuclear energy to power their propulsion systems. Additionally, some research facilities and spacecraft are powered by nuclear energy sources.

What are the things that use nuclear energy?

In countries with nuclear plants, like the US, all the generated electricity goes into the grid distribution network, so you can't separate the nuclear part out. Thus any electrical appliance will be using some nuclear, except in some small isolated areas perhaps which are not connected to the national networks.
