I remember an experiment I did at school about magnetic fields. We had a sheet of waxed paper on which we scattered iron filings. when a magnet was placed under the paper, the iron filings would jump to each pole but would leave arcing trails, showing the extent of the magnetic range. No idea about electricity though!
