Most things you read will tell you to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. Those are 8oz. glasses they are referring to. Convert the ounces to gallons and you get... 0.0625 gallons per 8 ounce glass. This is 1/16th gallon per 8 ounce glass. Therefore, 8 8-ounce glasses of water is the same as 8/16th's of a gallon, which can also be stated as 1/2 a gallon. Therefore, yes, it is safe to drink 1/2 gallon of water a day....although I wouldn't necessarily do it all at once...it'll make you have to pee a lot ;+)

It has been known to be nearly physically impossible (similar with the concept of not being able to lick your elbow; some people have the ability to accomplish the feat) to drink a gallon of milk in one hour. The human body is not capable of consuming that much milk without spewing it back out (i.e. throwing up, barfing, etc.). If one can barely do it in one hour (those few that can), it is certainly impossible to do it in half of one.
