When an object gets displaced in the absence of force acting on it, it must have already been moving? In the past a force acted on it and now the force is no longer acting on it. Like pushing on a toy car and letting go. The car continues to roll after you let go.

An example would be a paper airplane . When you throw it you apply force to it but when you let go there is no more constant force applied-just displacement occurs as it flies through the air.

Of course. That's the whole starting point of all the work by Galileo and Newton:

An object in motion remains in constant uniform motion until an external force acts

on it, and constant uniform motion is definitely going to give you displacement.

Of course. Force is not required to keep an object moving. With no force acting on it,

a moving object keeps moving at a constant speed in a straight line, and displacement

just keeps piling up.

How is work done by a force measured when force is in direction of displacement?

Work = (force on an object) times (displacement of the object during the time the force is applied to it).

When a force is applied on a moving bodyits motion is retardedThen the work done is?

By Definition of force work = force X displacement since the force depends upon the displacement which can either +ve, -ve or zero so if any object is retarding mean there can be many possibilities 1. if the force is applied opposite to the direction of object then the work done is negative. 2. if the force is on same direction then the work done is positive. in both the cases the displacement will be positive THIS KIND OF FORCE IS CALLED RETARDED FORCE

What are the quantities on which the amount of work done depends and How are they related to work?

work depends on:FORCE and DISPLACEMENT. it is directly proportional to both of them. work can be calculated by the product of force and displacement. if displacement is in a certain direction to the applied force then work done is calculated by force*displacement cos(angle). work done becomes 0when:- *displacement is 0 or the initial point and final point are the same. *displacement is in perpendicular direction to force applied.

What is scientific conception of work?

Work is said to be done, when force is applied on an object and the object displace in the direction of force. Work done is product of magnitude of force applied & displacement,So, W.D.(work done) = F*s(F denotes force applied & s denotes displacement)S.I. unit of force is 'Joule' (Nm)

What work is being done when pulling?

It is the pulling force applied multiplied by the displacement of the object being pulled in the direction of the pulling force.

Definition of work when it involves force?

hi; work may be defined as the product of the magnitude of force applied and the displacement of the point of application of force in the direction of force. work=force x displacement

it depends upon the systems displacement and your workdone

What is meant by Work in physics?

The displacement of a body which occurs when force is applied on it is called work.

What work is being done when pulling?

It is the pulling force applied multiplied by the displacement of the object being pulled in the direction of the pulling force.

What is the difference between negative work and zero work and positive work done?

If the angle between the displacement and force applied is less than a right angle, then it is Positive Work done. If the angle between the displacement and the force applied is greater than a right angle then it is Negative Work done. If the displacement and force are at right angles, or either is zero, then it is Zero Work done.

What is the definition of the word 'work' in physics?

The word 'work' in physics is defined as the transfer of energy from one material body to another. It is a body's displacement in space caused by an external force resulting in motion. If a force is applied but there is no displacement or motion, then no work is done. Also work is not done if a force is applied perpendicular to the body's displacement. Work is expressed in units such as joules or foot-pounds.

What other measurements would be needed to find the work done for an object that was moved 100 meters?

The force. Work=force x displacement Displacement=100m Work=? <----------------- if it's work your trying to find you need to force=? Know force and displacement. You know the Displacment, so force is missing.

What is defined work?

if the force applied on a body makes a body move that is there is a displacement of the point of application of force in the direction of force then work is said to be done by the body
