Mass number is a value approximate to the number of protons (Atomic Number) plus the number of neutrons within an atom of the element considered.
I say approximate as mass number takes into account the mass of the nucleus and not the actual number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus.

Atomic mass or mass number.

The atomic mass number is the sum of the protons and neutrons of an element. The protons are given by the atomic number, so the neutrons can be found by subtracting the mass number by the atomic number. Both the mass and atomic numbers can be found on the periodic table.
Scientists define mass as the measure of the amount of matter in an object. It is a fundamental property of an object that remains constant regardless of its location in the universe. Mass is typically measured in kilograms or grams.
