A catapult does not typically use a pulley. Catapults rely on stored energy, usually from a tension mechanism like a spring or twisted ropes, to launch projectiles. The release of this stored energy propels the projectile forward without the need for a pulley system.
A catapult is neither a pulley nor a gear. It is a mechanical device used to launch objects through the use of tension and propulsion mechanisms.
A pulley in a catapult is used to provide mechanical advantage by increasing the force applied to launch the projectile. As the tension in the rope connected to the pulley increases, it allows for a greater potential energy to be stored and then released rapidly to launch the projectile further and with more force. The pulley system helps in making the catapult more efficient and powerful.
Archimedes is the Greek scientist who discovered the principle of the lever and invented the double pulley. He did not invent the catapult but he did improve it. He also discovered the when an object is place in fluid, the volume of the fluid that is displaced is equal to the volume of the object.
To remove a pulley, you typically need to use a pulley puller tool. First, release tension on the belt connected to the pulley. Then, follow the specific instructions for your vehicle or equipment to use the pulley puller to gently remove the pulley without damaging surrounding components.
No, a pulley does not use friction. Pulleys are simple machines that use a wheel and axle to redirect the force applied to them. Friction is not necessary for a pulley to work properly.

A catapult is probably more effective, though a pulley is easier and safer to use.

pulley for what?
Most catapult's store their energy in twisted ropes, wound tightly by a wheel crank on the side of the catapult. The arm of the catapult is in between the two wound ropes. When a lever releases the gear attached to the rope, the rope unwinds, sending the arm of the catapult forward violently (flinging it's contents vast distances). Tribuchet's are a later more advanced manual artillery system. It used counter weight released by a pulley to fling massive boulders thousands of feet. But there is no real-world spring catapult. Most use ropes or counterweight and are far more capable.

You use a catapult to launch things into the air.
That the catapult can fire things over a long distance and we don't usually use the catapult in war any more, as they used to a long time ago.
