Direction does not have to change when velocity is changed. You can move North at 10 m/s and change it to 8 m/s a second later. You would still be moving North.

But since velocity is a vector, if direction changes, even though speed (magnitude of velocity) remains constant, then velocity most certainly changed, since both magnitude and direction make up the vector.

Velocity is the measurement consisting of speed and direction. When you move along

a curve, your speed may be constant, but your direction is constantly changing, so any

measurement that includes information about the direction of your motion is also constantly

changing.

A change in direction does cause a change in velocity. Speed is increased due to acceleration when direction is reversed.

Does change in direction cause acceleration?

Not necessarily. Changing direction does affect the velocity, which is acceleration and direction combined.

Why a change in speed of the rover might not effect its velocity?

Either a change in speed or direction, or both, will affect its velocity. If there is a change in speed, then the rover's velocity has changed.

Under what circumstances can an object move in a circular path without being accelerated?

It can't. If there is a change in direction, there is a change in velocity ("velocity" includes the direction), and therefore, an acceleration. It can't. What causes a spaceshuttle to change in velocity by change in direction?

A change in velocity constitutes a change in direction because velocity includes direction.

Are you accelerating if you are traveling in a constant direction with constant speed and explain?

If you are traveling at a constant speed with changing direction there is a change in velocity, so you are accelerating.

Rate of change of the velocity of an object?

The change in velocity is just the change in velocity. The RATE of change of velocity - how quickly velocity changes - is usually called "acceleration".

What is the difference between acceleration and velocity?

-- 'Velocity' is the rate at which position is changing, and the direction of the change. -- 'Acceleration' is the rate at which velocity is changing, and the direction of the change.

When the direction of an object changes what happens to it's velocity?

A change in the direction of motion IS a change of velocity, even if the speed doesn't change.

What is the differnece between speed acceleration and velocity?

Velocity is the change in displacement in a unit time in a specific direction. Speed is the magnitude of velocity and has no direction. Acceleration is the change in velocity in a unit time.

Is acceleration a change in the position of an object?

Yes. Acceleration is a change in velocity. As velocity is a vector (direction and speed) changing either the speed or direction will change the velocity and thus be an acceleration (or decelleration)

Is velocity a change in an objects motion?

Velocity is a change in an object's motion OR direction of motion.

What is the difference between speed velocity acceleration?

Speed is the rate of change in distance, whereas velocity is speed and direction of travel. Acceleration is the change in velocity (including direction).
