Best Answer

Too many or too few electrons creates an ion. The standard definition of an ion is any element whose charge is nonzero and there are two types: anion and cation. A cation will have a positive charge, and thus fewer electrons than normal, and an anion will have a negative charge, and thus more electrons than normal.

In either case, the object is charged. Electrons have a negative charge, while it is the protons in an atom's nucleus that are positively charged. An excess of electrons (relative to protons) will result in the object having a negative charge, while an electron deficiency will result in a positive charge. In both cases, a charge imbalance exists, and an object will be charged.

An atom with less, or more, electrons than protons has a net electric charge. Such a charged atom is called an ion.

What does an ion have too many or too few of?

Electrons.

What does an electric charge contain?

Electric charges contain too many electrons or too few electrons.

How the charges on the body may be determined by using an electroscope?

when a substance is electrically charged it has either too few or too many electrons. when the electroscope is brought near a charged object the electrons 'jump' if the substance had too many electrons then the extras would 'jump' to the electroscope giving it a negative charge if the substance had too few electrons then the electrons from the electroscpe would 'jump' to the substance, giving the electroscope a positive charge

What happens when there are too few electrons?

All the atoms in the universe have a tendency to become stable by having 2 or 8 electrons in their outermost cells. So, if an atom has very few electrons i.e 1,2,3 or 4 electrons in it's outermost cell it will tend to loose electrons in order to become stable. hope it helps!

What is an atom with too few Electrons?

Electronegative.

What happens when there are too many electrons?

If there are excess electrons in an atom, the atom is likely to be ionized; that is, the stom will emit the electrons.

What is it called when you have too few electrons in an atom?

Ionization. In the issue an ion (cation) is generated.

Too many and you can gain weight. Too few and you can lose weight.

How can nondisjuncton result in an individual having an extra chromosome what is this called?

Yes, nondisjunction results in a germinal cell (ovum or spermatozoa) with either too many or too few chromosomes. If one of these cells joins with another to form a zygote, there may be one or more too many or too few chromosomes in the cells.
