Air resistence is actually a type of friction. We know that friction can be the force between to objects and air applies to this same notion. When an object travels at a high point in velocity it will feel air resistence. That's why you see space ships in space combusting into the earth's atmosphere because there is too much friction

SIMILAR: All friction involves two objects and the generation of heat. In this case the two objects are the surfaces of the plane facing forward (nose, leading edges of the wings and rudder, etc.) or the surfaces parallel to the direction of flight (wing surfaces, fuselage), and the air. As the plane moves through the air, the air (79% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen) crashes into or around these surfaces and resists the movement of the plane (drag).

DISSIMILAR: Air is a fluid and obeys Newton's law of fluid motion. Hence, the atoms in the air closest to the wings and fuselage approach a relative velocity of zero, and the atoms farther and farther away from the wing have greater relative velocities. This shearing, essentially, of the layers of air is caused by friction. Since there is more friction closer to the wing and fuselage as the air is passing over, the air will move slower at that point. The air is more free-flowing further away from the plane and undergoes less friction at that point.

How are air resistance and friction alike?

Air resistance is a type of fluid friction (along with water resistance) and is therefore is a type of friction.

Why are air resistance and friction similar?

They both provide an opposing force against acceleration.

Air resistance is a type of friction True or False?

Air- resistance is basically a type of friction between an object and the air

Is air resistance fluid friction?

At sub-sonic speeds, air resistance is fluid friction. At supersonic speeds, it is not.

How are friction and air resistance different?

air resistance is different from friction because friction is more than one thing because there is many different types of friction air restance is one of those types of friction.

What is the force air resistance?

Air resistance is a friction force, the flow of air over a surface will cause friction and produce drag. Thanks

Is friction and air resistance an energy?

friction and air resistance are respectively the amount of force applied involving the dissipation of ENERGY and the oppsition offered to an object when moving in air. so friction and air resistance are not a type of energy but opposing forces .
