Magnets are able to give off magnetic energy, when magnets cause levitation it is because the magnetic energy that they are exerting on each other has overcome the gravitational force. (the electromagnetic force has superseded the gravitational force) The most interesting fact is that the equations used for both magnetism and gravity are almost identical in form.

∙ 9y agoIf you had two magnets that had a hole in the middle, and you threaded them onto a narrow spike so they couldn't move sideways, only up or down. If the bottom magnet had north pointing upwards, and the top magnet had north pointing downwards, they would repel each other. The top magnet would appear to be hovering in space.
