You need to determine mass and volume and then divide the mass by the volume to get density.

Refer to related link article for additional information on calculating density by water displacement.

1.Take a triple beam balance to find the weight

2.Then take a graduated cylinder a fill it about half way up with water

3.Measure how much water is in the container

4.Put your irregular shape in the water

5.Measure the water now

6.Subtract the difference

7.Then take your weight (in grams) divide by your volume (the difference of the water)

AND THAT IS YOUR DENSITY

Weigh the object in air and then in water. The density is equal to the weight in air divided by the difference between the weight in air and the weight in water.

The same as for a regular object: just divide the mass by the volume.

You can measure the mass by immersing the object in a liquid; or you can calculate it by using integration.

How do you calculate the density of an irregularly shaped object which is less dense than water?

Force it below the surface of water and measure the force required.

What is formula for calculating an object's density?

Mass divided by Volume = Density. Or use the displacement method for an irregularly shaped object.

How would you find the density of an irregularly shaped object such as a rock?

Weight it. Find it's volume. (hint - how much water does it displace). Divide.

Is there a more systematic way of finding the center of gravity of an irregularly shaped object?

Finding the center of gravity of an irregularly shaped object can be done using the plumb line method.

How can you calculate the volume of an irregularly shaped object?

If the object in question is water proof, and small enough. You can measure the amount of displaced water when it is placed in a tank full of water, this may not work for a lot of things but it can help when attempting to measure some objects.

What is the name of the method by which the volume of an irregularly shaped object is found?

the water displacement method

A technique used to calculate the volume of irregularly shaped solids?

To calculate the volume of an irregularly shaped object, a good idea would be to get a bucket full of water and submerge that object into the bucket. Then measure the amount of water that runs over and that should be the volume of your object. For example if you take a sealed bottle of bottle stick it in a bucket filled with water, then let it's volume filll the space and displace the water. The water that is displaced or the water that runs out is the volume of your irregular shape. Get it?

A scientist immerses an irregularly shaped object into a beaker of water and notes how far the water rises. What property of the object is the scientist measuring?

The amount the water rises is dependent of the volume of water displaced by the object - thus it can be used to measure the volume of the immersed object. If the object did not immerse completely - if it floated - the displaced fluid could instead be used to calculate the relative density of the object - when combined with the total volume.

How will you find the volume of an irregularly shaped object that would dissolve in water?

Use volume displacement method.

What formula do you use to caculate the density of an object?

Calculate the volume of the substance by measuring the length, width and height. The formula looks like this: Volume = L (length) x W (width) x H (height). Determine if the object or substance is irregularly shaped. If so, you can determine the volume by finding out how much water is displaced when the object is dropped into a beaker of water. Calculate the density once you know the volume and mass of the substance or object. Density is equal to the mass of the substance divided by its volume: D (density) = M (mass) / V (volume).
