a ball rolls around in some oily stuff.

yeah i know you're thinking the perverted thing

a ball tip pen collects the ink from the little tube and it rolls it out on the page. like sunscreen a sphere over the top of the tube that has the ink or in this case sunscreen and rolls it on.

a felt tip pen works pretty much the same

Does temperature affect the way pens work?

Temperature can affect the way pens work, especially if they are gel or ballpoint pens. Extremely hot or cold temperatures can cause the ink to expand or contract, leading to issues with writing smoothly or the ink not flowing properly. It's best to store pens in moderate temperatures to maintain their performance.

Do pens work in space, and if so, how do they function in a zero-gravity environment?

Does a counterfeit detector pen work on a 1950 fifty dollar bill?

No, counterfeit detector pens are designed to work on modern currency with specific security features. The ink used in the pens reacts to the starch in the paper of modern bills to determine if the bill is genuine. Since a 1950 fifty dollar bill is older and made with different materials, the pen may not work effectively.

Does a counterfeit detector pen work on 1950 series 100 dollar bill?

Counterfeit detector pens typically work on paper-based currencies, so they may not work efficiently on older series of bills like the 1950 series. It is recommended to use other methods or consult with an expert to verify the authenticity of such bills.

Why fountain pens are not used in space?

Fountain pens rely on gravity to draw ink towards the nib, which wouldn't work in the microgravity environment of space. Additionally, ink cartridges in fountain pens can leak or explode due to pressure changes in space, making them unsuitable for use in that environment. Ballpoint pens or specialized space pens are commonly used instead.
