Best Answer

1 tonne is 1000 kg, the 'metric ton'. The quintal seems to mostly refer to a 100 kg unit, though other values have been used. In the US it was defined as 100 kg in 1866 but this unit is now obsolete. If it is 100 kg, then there are 10 quintals per tonne.

The conversion is different depending on what substance you are using. You need to know the density of the material you are using.

For instance, and this is from Reade.com;

Earth, moist, excavated - 90 pounds/cubic foot

Earth, wet, excavated - 100 pounds/cubic foot

Multiply the volume in cubic feet by the above number, and you will get pounds.
