How do you propagate a palm?

Some palm trees like house palms can be propagated by division right in the middle and it will mature into two new plants.

Its very easy and one of the best plants to try with as you can do this 3 ways.

1) One is to start with the seed pod if you have time that is, and like allot of spikes. Simply pick the rip fruit red to yellow in colour and simply put in a pot with sandy soil and water not to much to make it rot though. It will shoot soon and start to grow many heads with lots of small spikes for protection. Give good sun and your on your way to a healthy little plant.

2) Ok so you want to have a much larger one that wont take so long to grow. You can simply divide the base of a larger plant buy cutting at hr roots and separating the base to give a root stock with a large base and simply put in the ground where you want to grow. Give good sun with sandy well drained soil.

3) Have no roots to go with you can take a large branch that may have broken off in big winds or one that is in the way of the sea view and simply put in a bucket for a few days to drink and start to grow some roots. Once started plant in good sandy well drained soil and will keep growing well for you.

The Pandanas is very strong and can survive well with little water but also loves to have a drink from time to time as it grows in areas that flood and also with salt levels. Dont be to fussy with it.

As it grows older the spikes seem to be less grouped together and it becomes easier to clean the leaves away. It is much spikier when young.
