A diesel engine heats a volatile fuel or oil, and mixes it with hot compressed air, causing it to rapidly combust (explode). Whereas a gasoline engine uses much more flammable petroleum distillates, a diesel engine can use many types of refined oils, such as peanut oil or mineral oil.

The fuel is sprayed into a heated combustion chamber (cylinder) where air in the chamber has been trapped and compressed by a moving piston, leading to compressive heating of the air. The oil explodes, and it forces the cylinder back in the opposite direction (the power stroke, part of a measured cyclic motion). On the following stroke of the cylinder, the waste gases (mostly water and CO2) are forced out through a valve opening, and the cylinder is ready for more fuel.

How does a diesel power plant works?

A diesel powerplant uses the diesel power cycle for energy generation. A diesel power plant is one using a diesel engine to run a generator coupled to it. A generator produces power when it rotates.

Why does a diesel engine develop more torque than a gasoline engine of equivalent displacement?

Diesel engine runs at a higher compression ratio than a gasoline engine. A typical diesel engine may also use a longer stroke and smaller bore than a gasoline engine. Diesel fuel has a higher energy density than gasoline.

What is chemical energy converted in a car?

The chemical energy is stored in the fuel, ie gasoline or diesel, and released when it is burned in the engine.

What means dg set?

Hi, DG means diesel generator (or diesel generator set, diesel genset). A diesel generator, also known as a genset, is a type of generator that uses a diesel engine to generate electricity. It consists of a diesel engine, which is connected to an electric generator. The diesel engine burns diesel fuel to produce mechanical energy, which is then converted into electrical energy by the generator. Diesel generators are commonly used in various applications, including residential, commercial, and industrial settings, as they provide a reliable source of backup power during power outages or in remote locations where grid power is unavailable.
