A thermogram is an image that shows regions of different temperatures in different colors. . A camera can take pictures of the infrared rays, and since some spots let of more infrared rays than others, you can get a detailed picture. Any objects with heat produce infrared rays.

if your wondering how a thermoscope works you have come to the right place... heating or cooling the glass bulb resulted in expansion or contraction the air in the instrument. The water would rise or fall in the neck with the expansion and contraction of the air.
