More friction is produced on a hard surface than on a smooth surface it takes more force and brute strength to push something heavy on a rough surface, because it falls in the cracks. On a smooth surface you are just sliding across a surface.

Friction is greater when two rough surfaces are rubbed together because there is more inter-particle force of attraction in rough surface rubbing and hence, more heat is released in the form of friction.

but a surface can only be so smooth until the coefficient actually increases due to molecular effects

As the frictional force is given by f = uN where u = roughness of the material it varies from material to material u is more than 0 and less than 1.5 and N is the normal force acting on the body so the frictional force depends on the type of surface !!!!

Frictional Force is calculated by 'F = μmg', μ is the 'coefficient of friction' between touching surfaces. The higher the value the more friction is created (so if two rough objects are ran along each other frictional force will increase). Also likewise if you change the mass of an object more frictional resistive force will be created.

Basically frictional force is proportional to the coefficient of friction (roughness), if the coefficient of friction is doubled the the frictional force will be doubled.

yes ,it does as

Friction only changes with two variables, the coefficient of Friction, and the Weight of the object, normal to the surface. Friction is independent of Surface Area. So, if increased roughness of the surface causes a change in the Coefficient of Friction, THEN the force of friction will be changed.

Rough surfaces have more friction than the smooth surfaces. For ex: Carpet is a rough surface, ice is a smooth surface so carpet surface have more friction and ice surface have less friction.

When do the frictional forces between two surfaces increase?

As they come into contact so tight friction would increase As roughness increases frictional force too increases.

What is surface roughness tester?

surface roughness tester is the machine which used to measure the roughness of the surface using probes... roughness is nothing but the frictional force applied by the surface to the adjacent surface.. if roughness increases the amount of frictional force increases..

What frictional force?

Frictional force is the force that opposes motion between two surfaces.

What happens to the magnitude of frictional force when two surfaces are pressed hard?

In my opinion , frictional force will increase

Describe the factors that cause static friction between two surfaces to increase.?

A higher coefficient of static friction increases the static frictional force. A greater normal force also does this.

What factors affect the coefficient of friction between two surfaces?

Surface temperature, Weight of the object, Roughness of surface and the object

How do you change the frictional force between two solid surfaces?

we can reduce it by providing lubrication means using oil between 2 surfaces as lubricant.

Describe two ways to change the frictional force between two sold surfaces?

1 . By polishing the surfaces in contact 2 . By lubricating the surfaces in contact with oil or grease .

Is frictions force?

Frictional force is the force that opposes motion between two surfaces.

Does then frictional force depend on the type of surfaces in contact?

Yes. Different materials and different surface structures affect the frictional force.

How does the roughness of a surface effect friction?

The rougher then surface the greater the frictional force. When a surface is rough and you put friction to it, it creates sparks while smooth surfaces when friction is added causes a slight stactic shock.

What two factors that affect the amount of friction between two surfaces?

The magnitude of the frictional force is directly proprotional to the normal reaction between the two surfaces.(2)Magnitude of the frictional force is independent of shape and area of the surfaces
