Hard to say, it depends on temperature, pressure, purity of water, etc.

1 gal of water is 0.13368 of a cubic foot at room temperature. it will expand 1603:1 also at sea level

The steam to water volume ratio depends on which reference temperature one selects for the water and the ambient pressure.

One Gallon of water produces 223 cubic feet of steam.

Using the ideal gas law and making certain assumptions we can find the approximate volume of 1 gallon of liquid H2O vaporizing.

1 Gallon of water is approximately 3.78541178L using the density of water, approximately 1,000kg/L, we find that the gallon of water has a mass of 3,785,411.78g. Using the molecular weight of water, we find that 1 gallon of water has 210,122mol.

Using the ideal gas law V=nRT/P

n=moles of water (210,122.28397227mol)

r=constant (8.314472PaL/Kmol)

T=temperature (373.15K)

P=Pressure (101,325Pa)

The assumptions here are that water is boiling at exactly 373.15 degrees and that you are at a pressure of 1 ATM or 101,325Pa. For instance, at high altitudes, pressure drops therefore boiling point drops and these assumptions would no longer give an accurate estimate.

If you plug the values into the equation you will find that you now have 6,433.89 L of steam or 1,699.65 gallons. Therefore we can assume that water expands 1700x under certain conditions. Hope this was helpful.

And FYI please don't use Cubic feet, or gallons, or yards, or feet, or inches, or leagues, or miles, or pounds, or pounds per square inch.

I would just like to say... to who ever wrote this answer. one liter of water is not 1000 kg. density is 1kg/L or 1 gram per mL.... one gallon does not make 1700 gallons of steam, that is crazy and wrong

Are there any cheaper, natural alternatives to detergent for steam cleaning machines, and if so how much should be used per gallon of water?

I've read that you need to buy special detergents to put into steam cleaning machines, but I don't want to clean my carpet with any harsh, expensive chemicals. Are there any cheaper natural products that I can add to the water in my steam cleaner, and if so, how much do I use per gallon of water?

How many lb of steam in 8oz water?

To convert ounces of water to pounds, you can use the fact that there are 16 ounces in a pound. Therefore, 8 ounces of water is equal to 0.5 pounds (8 oz ÷ 16 oz/lb). If you are asking about the weight of steam produced from 8 ounces of water when it is converted to steam, the mass remains the same at 0.5 pounds, as mass is conserved during the phase change. However, the volume of steam will be much larger due to the difference in density between water and steam.
