To get the work, simply multiply the force by the distance. This assumes that both are in the same direction.

When is work not done on an object?

Work = Force x Distance. so no work is done if there is no force exerted, or if the object does not move.

When a force is exerted on an object work is done only if the object?

Only if the object moves

What is the scientific meaning of the term work?

Work is force exerted over a distance. If I pushed on my car really hard and it did not move, no work was done. If my car started going without any force being exerted on it, which would be miraculous, no work would have been done.

In the force has a component in the opposite direction from the motion the work done is negative?

No the work done is still positive, the force exerted and the work done to exert that force is still the same. Its just that the other object is exerting more of a force on the object doing the work.

What instrument measures how much work is being done to move an object?

A spring scale and a meter stick. Spring scale may be used to find force exerted. Meter stick finds distance through which force was exerted.

What conditions must be met for work to be done?

1. A force is needed 2. The point of application of the force is to be displaced. 3. If the displacement is in the direction of the force then work is said to be done by the force and if the direction of displacement is opposite to the force then work is done against the force.

What is the definition of work'?

Is done when a force exerted on an object causes that object to move some distance; equals to force times distance; measured in joules (j)

Can work be done in space?

No, because a force is not being exerted either on the rock or by the rock. It has momentum in a friction free enviroment.

If a force of 90 Newtons was exerted on an object and no work was done would the object gain momentum?

it would remain motionless.

If a force of 100 newtons was exerted on an object and no work was done the object must have?

The object must be stationary. Work done happens when the object is moving in the direction of the force- if it is staying still, there is no work done!
