Newton's Third Law of Motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Understand that it is not the exhaust that makes a rocket or reaction motor work, but the force that is applied where no resistance exists. A rocket can be compared to a balloon. The inflated balloon has pressure in all directions, and so does not move. Opening the neck means that there is no pressure at the neck end, and the pressure at the opposite side of the balloon makes it move forward.

What is exhaust velocity?

Exhaust velocity is the speed at which the combustion gases are expelled from a rocket engine. It is a key parameter that determines the thrust generated by the engine and is crucial for calculating the overall performance of the rocket. A higher exhaust velocity results in greater thrust and efficiency of the rocket engine.

What is valve overlap?

Valve overlap occurs in a four-stroke engine at the end of the Exhaust stroke and at the beginning of the Induction stroke; and is when both the exhaust and inlet valves are open at the same time. At the end of the Exhaust stroke, the Exhaust valve is closing and the Inlet valve is starting to open in preparation for the induction of fuel and air into the cylinder. It is common knowledge that in vehicles that cannot alter the valve timing, the Inlet valve opens approx 6 degrees before top-dead-centre and the Exhaust valve closes at 9 degrees after top-dead-centre

What is propulsive force of a rocket engine called?

The propulsive force of a rocket engine is called thrust. It is the force that propels the rocket in the opposite direction to the exhaust expelled from the rocket engine.

Which term describes the amount of the thrust created per unit of mass of an engine and fuel?

Specific impulse :)

What is the function of side branch resonators in a car's exhaust system?

Side branch resonators in a car's exhaust system help to reduce noise and improve the overall sound quality of the exhaust. They work by canceling out specific frequencies of sound waves produced by the engine, resulting in a quieter and more pleasant exhaust note.
