A car driving on a highway is both potential and kinetic energy. Going up and down a hill is potential energy and moving on a flat plane is kinetic energy.
The real story is the car is quaternion energy, involving potential and vector energy.
Kinetic energy is rightfully, vector energy. Physicists have not recognized the quaternion nature of physics consisting of quaternions the sum of a scalar/potential and vector. Kinetic (motion )energy is really vector energy, but is " defined" as a scalar, not the vector that usually defines motion, i.e. velocity.
To find the speed, take the distance and divide it by the time. 100m/2h = 50m/hr
Remember that velocity is a vector quantity which means it needs two criteria to be defined; a magnitude, and a direction. When we discuss the magnitude of velocity, what we are talking about is the speed (30m/s, 45mph, etc). Those examples are examples of speed; it is only when we add a direction that it becomes 'velocity'. So, the difference is: "25m/s" is a speed, but "25m/s east" is a velocity. I got a speeding ticket for 45mph. The distance that I travelled was 810feet before I stopped. He clocked me with a radar gun at 45MPH. I want to know if it is possible to go 0 to 45 and back to 0 in that length driving a BMW 5 SUV. He showed me the radar gun and it was flashing 45MPH. Thank you for any help!
