Yes. I do it every week in order to pass a urinalysis for THC. Though what I do is chug one gallon in under an hour, then another in under an hour and a half. I only occasionally vomit. I also know many other people who do/have done this, so I am not just speaking from personal experience.
My method: drink until your stomach becomes slightly uncomfortable, then STOP. Let it settle for 5-10 minutes. You may need more if you feel ill or nauseous. When you feel the need to pee, do it immediately. This prevents water poisoning, which happens when the electrolytes in your body become so diluted they cannot perform their function, and this CAN BE EXTREMELY DEADLY.
TL;DR: yes, drink in small spurts, let your stomach settle when you feel ill, and pee as much as you can.
