It is possible to photoactivate any nucleus except 1H. Be really hard to do, but possible. Light (a Photon) is a "massless" sub-atomic particle (Boson) that has no atomic structure / any structure is sub-atomic; IE: No "Atom, proton, neutron, electron" etc. Because of this it is not an "Atom" and cannot be split. Photon's can be 'cloned' which some term as splitting, however they are not really split as there is nothing to split. Photon's interact with charged electrons and clone themselves into lower frequencies, putting white light through a prism results in bands of colored light (lower frequencies).

Yes, it is possible to split an atom through a process called nuclear fission.

Physicist and their contribution?

Rutherford. Discovered small charged nucleus of atom. Split the atom.

When atoms are split which part of the atom is energy released?

nucleus. the nucleus gets the energy and the realises it to the protons and the electrons.

What atom undergoes radioactive decay what is actually split or affected the most?

nucleus

What is a characteristic of a radioactive nucleus?

A characteristic of a radioactive nucleus is that it undergoes spontaneous decay, emitting radiation in the form of alpha particles, beta particles, or gamma rays in order to achieve a more stable configuration.

The isotopes are uranium-235 or plutonium-239.

What causes the atom's nucleus to split?

- for spontaneous fission the cause is an inconvenient ratio between neutrons and protons- bombardment of the nucleus with particles, especially neutrons

How do you measure the energy created by spliting a hydrogen atom?

You can't split a hydrogen atom, as the nucleus consists of only one proton, nothing else

Where are massive amounts of energy in an atom contained?

The majority of an atom's mass and energy is located in its nucleus, which contains protons and neutrons. The energy stored within the nucleus is released through nuclear reactions such as fission or fusion.

What is 112 the mass of a carbon atom?

A carbon 12 atom has a mass defect of .098931 u. This number, the mass defect, represents the binding energy of the nucleus of the nucleus of the atom, and how energy has to be used to split this nucleus.

What is produced when two or more nuclei join together or when the nucleus or one atom split apart?

nuclear fusion

What is the term for splitting a atom?

When you split an atom, you create a nuclear fission. The energy from splitting that atom is converted to electricity. To split an atom means to literally "break it in half." An atom has a nucleus with negatively charged electrons around it. The reaction of the atom splitting is so large that a small amount can convert into numerous amounts of energy.
