There is an instructables DIY solar tracker unit on instructables.com that uses this unit, I would try to contact the guy who made that to get an idea about reliability
It's only practical in sunny areas. -Kali
Assemblies of solar cells are used to make solar modules which are used to capture energy fromsunlight. When multiple modules are assembled together (such as prior to installation on a pole-mounted tracker system), the resulting integrated group of modules all oriented in one plane is referred to in the solar industry as a solar panel. The electrical energy generated from solar modules, referred to as solar power, is an example of solar energy
A solar collector, or solar panel is what collects solar energy. The energy that is generated by the solar collector is then routed to either a battery or an inverter that converts the energy to AC voltage.
solar furnace is real fire. solar cells are little fires.
solar means the sun and we use solar cells to convert into energy which gives you electricity.
Solar Energy is only reliable for daylight hours.
Sun tracking in the solar panel is done by a solar tracker (a computerized or timer device) which basically orients a payload towards the sun.
There are two parts to a solar tracker. One is the mechanical part. This includes the motor, sensors, actuator, frame and other mechanical parts. The second is the electronics that move the tracker. If you want to look at the electronics for CSP, CPV or PV check out our website www.suntrack.es. We have a number data sheets and accessories. Please contact me if you need assistance. The Suntech Solar Storm comes with a great factory warranty.
The amount of power generated by a solar tracker depends upon the type of tracking system used. A fixed tracker will produce less electricity than an active tracker because a fixed tracker only creates maximum energy when the sun is directly in line with the panel. Active trackers follow the sun and produce consistent electricity as the sun moves through the sky. The size of the panel also affects how much power is produced, as large solar installations will obviously generate more electricity than a small panel on a house. Solar panels usually have a number listed on the back that shows the power output you can expect in ideal conditions, but this is not usually what is actually produced. Generally, a standard solar panel on a house can produce about 200 watts of power each day.

There are solar ovens available but they have not yet proven to be reliable.
Compared to base load electricity sources like coal-fired power stations or nuclear generators, solar energy is not reliable because it need the sun shining on the panels The sun goes out at night, and is sometimes covered with clouds during the day. The capacity factor of a solar installation may be as low as 25%.
The best form of solar power generation is through much more advanced and dangerous technology. For your home though, solar panels are a great form of solar power generation, and although not totally reliable, very good for environment and saves costs.
A small wind turbine or solar panels will provide electricity at no cost once they are installed, but the purchase and installation costs may make this unattractive. The other drawback is they are not always reliable and solar won't work at night, so you can only regard them as back up supplies and not what you need for reliable continuous supply.
Exterior lighting works a whole lot better when it is hardwired. Solar powered units often do not work for very long at all.
