toxic poison
true
Mecury- only liquid metal at room temperature.
It doesn't 'move' exactly, it expands. Originally mercury (a metal in a liquid state at room temperature) was used in thermometers; as the the temperature increases the mercury (or other liquid) expands, taking up more of the volume within the thermometer, causing the level to rise. Thermometers are calibrated to allow the temperature to be measured based on how much expansion has taken place.
Bromine (Br) is a liquid at room temperature and is a non-metal. The only liquid element that is not a metal is Bromine (Br). There is one other element that occurs in liquid form and that is Mercury (Hg).
It is the only metal which is liquid at room temperature (liquid from -39oC to 357oC). More it has enough but not to much expansion on increasing temperature by one oC and a high heat conductivity, low vapor pressure at room temperature. Disadvantage: it is toxic when in free air. Moreover, you are only talking about room thermometers or medical. There are many types types thermometers which uses different materials.
So NO. Mercury does NOT have water on it. The conditions on Mercury sure rule it out. As Mercury slowly rotates, the side facing the Sun experiences extremely high temperatures. At noon on the equator, the temperature rises to 700 Kelvin. And then dips down to just 100 Kelvin at night, since there's no atmosphere to hold in the temperature. Any water on the surface of Mercury would boil away quickly and escape into space because of Mercury's low gravity, and the constantly blowing solar wind.
Mercury!
Mercury is a liquid metal used in thermometers. However, it becomes a solid at -37.9 F and it can cause mercury poisoning if ingested or inhaled. Therefore, most theremometers use ethyl-alcohol or a plastic strip covered with liquid crystals (called a liquid crystal thermometer).
mercury
Yes, mercury is a heavy, silvery metal that is liquid at normal temperatures.
mercury is a liquid metal that when heated can determine tempreture in thermometers
mercury
it is mercury. its actually a liquid at room temperature.
mercury also known as quick silver or liquid silver
well that dependes on what form of metal you want but mercury is a silvery liquid metal its periodic symbole is HG but is also very deadly
Mercury is a liquid at room temperature. It's a metal and silvery.
Many thermometers use the liquid metal mercury, Hg.
Of the 112 known elements, only two are liquids at standard temperature and pressure: Bromine and Mercury. Of them, only Mercury is a metal and silvery in appearance. Answer, Mercury.
