Best Answer

The vector sum of all forces acting on a body is equal to the product of the mass of the object times the acceleration the body has due to the forces.

(Force = Mass times Acceleration.)

Newton`s Second Law of Motion defines the relationship between Force(F), mass(m), and acceleration(a).

F = ma

Explanation :-

Force and mass are directly proportional; as one increases, the other increases.

This needs logic, the heavier an object is , the more it has, the more force it has on other objects. For example, take a person with a mass of 10 kg, and another with a mass of 20 kg. The one with a mass of 20 kg will have heavier movement than the 10 kg person.

Force and acceleration are directly proportional, as one increases, the other increases.

The more force you apply to an object, the faster it will change its state of motion; More acceleration.

newtons second law of motion states that the external force applied on a body is equal to the rate of change of momentum of that body with time.

force= dp/dt where p =momentum of the body. this is for instantaneous force on the body.

or force can also be expressed as= change in momentum/ time interval

this is formula for average force.

also, momentum=mv {momentum= massXvelocity}

therefore force=mXv/t

= mX(v/t)

=ma as we know that acceleration= change in velocity upon time

F=ma. Acceleration of a body is parallel to and proportional to the force applied to it and inversely proportional to its mass.
