Its steel because sound is a compressional wave and moves better through more densely packed matter. Sound moves slower and slower the less matter is present (ie higher up in the atmosphere with lower pressure sound travels slower) and wont travel at all in the absence of matter which is why you cant here anything in space (a vacuum.) Go stick your head under water and listen, you'll notice a difference in how fast sound moves. The speed of sound is not a constant.

What does sound go faster through a vacuum or a solid?

Sound travels faster through a solid than through a vacuum. In a solid, sound waves propagate through the material's molecules, leading to faster transmission. In a vacuum, there are no molecules to transmit sound, so it cannot travel at all.

What is wrong a sound travels in a straight line b sound travels as a wave c sound is a form of energy d sound travels faster in vacuum than in air?

A is wrong. B is right C is right D is wrong A: Sound travels as a wave, therefore it does not travel in a straight line. B: Sound travels in a wave. C: The sound wave is a form of energy; all waves are. D: Sound cannot travel in a vaccuum. A is not entirely wrong.

What is faster than a bullet?

* The speed of light in a vacuum, * The speed of sound,

What travels faster light or sound?

Light travels at approximately 3x108m/s whilst sound travels only at 343m/s. So which do you think is the faster one?

Can a sound be faster than a other sound?

yes, sound travels faster in liquids and solids than in gases e.g. faster in water than through air. The denser the solid, the faster the sound travels.

A sound must have what to travel?

There must be particles present for sound waves to travel. Sound travels by vibration, when one particle hits another. This is why there is no sound in a vacuum as no particles are present. Therefore, sound travels better within a space with a higher concentration of particles. For example, sound travels faster through a solid as opposed to a liquid or gas.

What travel fast light or sound in the universe?

Light travels faster than sound in the universe. The speed of light in a vacuum is about 299,792 kilometers per second, whereas the speed of sound is significantly slower at about 343 meters per second in air.

Sound travels faster through what?

The speed of sound is determined by what it travels through. It travels faster through dense mediums, such as liquids, and doesn't travel at all in space, because there are no molecules to move sound waves along.

What travels faster?

Light travels faster than sound. Light travels at a speed of about 186,000 miles per second (300,000 kilometers per second) in a vacuum, while sound travels at a speed of about 1,125 feet per second (343 meters per second) in air.

Is sound faster than the eyesight?

No, sound is not faster than eyesight. Light travels faster than sound, with light moving at approximately 299,792 kilometers per second in a vacuum, compared to sound traveling at 343 meters per second in the air at room temperature.

What effect does water have on sound?

Sound travels faster in water.

What type of air does sound travel faster in?
