A wing must first be laminar (smooth). The top of the wing should have a greater surface area than the bottom of the wing.

Because of these two factors the air above the wing must have a greater relative velocity to the wing than the air below does. Faster moving air has a lower presser and therefore a net upward force is created by motion through air.
