How is nuclear power stored for later use?

Nuclear power is stored for later use through the process of nuclear fuel reprocessing or by storing spent nuclear fuel in specially designed casks or pools. This allows for the energy generated during nuclear fission to be saved and used when needed.

Are you in favor of building Nuclear plants to reduce emissions of C02?

I, personally, am not. The nuclear plants have their own carbon footprint, which is a good deal more than the footprint of wind, hydro, or solar. It is possibly greater than the carbon footprint of biomass or geothermal, and, in fact, the only power sources with a larger carbon footprint than nuclear are fossil fuels. This is because the construction and decommissioning of nuclear plants, and the mining, refining, and enrichment of nuclear fuel are all carbon intensive. Also, we have no idea how the waste is going to be handled, so we are somewhat unsure of the total cost of nuclear power in terms of carbon emissions. Consider this: In Vermont, where I live, we are in the middle of a political decision over whether or not to permit a nuclear plant to continue operation. The amount of electrical power put out by the plant is some what less that what would be saved if the uninsulated or poorly insulated living and working buildings in the state were insulated. The saving of doing that job is mostly fossil fuels. If the fossil fuels saved were applied to distributed power generation, with the waste heat being recycled to heat buildings (which cannot be done with nuclear power because the plants are to far from cities) the carbon footprint for electrical generation would be reduced for electrical generation to about four to five times the carbon footprint of nuclear power. In addition, the electrical power grid would be more robust and reliable. Such distributed systems can be converted to use biomass instead of fossil fuels. Wind and solar can be added so the base-load plants can burn less fuel when renewable power is supplied. By the time you are done, the nuclear plant is replaced with locally fueled power. Nuclear plants will have to be built, but not for combating global warming. They will have to be designed to reduce nuclear waste as a way of dealing with it. We have a supply sufficient to power noncritical reactors for several centuries. In the meantime, the waste is dangerous. There is no excuse to make more. Clearly other people will have other ideas.

How did people react to the atom bomb?

Reactions to the atom bomb varied widely. Some people saw it as a necessary means to end the war and believed it saved lives by hastening Japan's surrender. Others condemned it as a barbaric and inhumane weapon that caused immense suffering and destruction. The bombings also raised concerns about the potential for nuclear proliferation and the long-term consequences of nuclear warfare on humanity.

When Thomas Edison saved a boy on a train what was rolling towards the boy?

Thomas Edison saved a boy on a train from a rolling chemical bottle. This incident inspired the boy's father, who was a station agent, to teach Edison morse code. This event sparked Edison's interest in technology and communication.

What is a negawatt?

Negawatt power is a term coined and introduced by Amory Lovins in a 1989 speech. A negawatt is a concept related to power and electrical generating capacity. A similar concept applies to energy, with potential consumers being rewarded for lowering consumption at any time, rather than just at peak times: this could then be labeled negajoules or negawatt-hours. Source: Wikipedia It'sa term related to electricity consumption, but it's not a measurement. It mean to conserve electricity by reducing or limiting your electric power usage at peak hours or loads -meaning the most electrical usage everyone consumes reaches a high - like in the summer, air conditioners running at the hottest part of the day puts a load on the electrical usage. I used to work at an Electric Utility company and customers had an option for a "time of use" rate. I could go on more, but it gets complicated.

What fossil fuels will be saved by incresed use of nuclear power?

If nuclear generation increases as expected towards about 30 percent (19 at present), and at the same time other alternatives such as wind and solar increase as well, the use of fossil fuels will diminish, however this also depends on whether total electricity production continues to rise. In the near future this is unlikely because of the general fall off in industrial production, but one can expect growth to resume in a few years time.If electric vehicles are adopted we shall need much more electricity.

you mean 'Accrued' account, which means increased,or what you have added, saved.

Was a nuclear bomb needed?

No, it was not needed, but it was an available weapon, and its use probably saved human lives.

What did the Manhattan project accomplished?

The Manhattan Project not only built the bombs that ended the war and saved millions of lives it helped scientists learn to harvest plutonium, uranium and to harness its power so they could eventually make nuclear powered ships and reactors for power.

What happened to the missiles when the Cuban missile crisis was over?

the missile sites were dismantled and the missiles returned to the USSR and many people thought that kennedy saved the world from nuclear war on the other hand others thought that khrushchev saved the world from nuclear war

Is nuclear weapons the only thing that is destructive about nuclear energy?

no. Nuclear plants can explode potentially killing thousands of people. Besides the explosion, a nuclear explosion would cause radiation to linger, killing off, or mutating thousands more at a greater distance. Nuclear energy can also cause nuclear waste to form, and this must properly be put away. However, nuclear energy has saved/created more lives than kill it because it is able to create large amounts of energy, without pollution and power many homes.

Will data stored on a computer's hard disk remain after losing power?

It depends on whether the data had been saved at the time the power went out. If it was saved before the outage, then it will remain on the computer's hard disk. If it was not saved, then it is almost certainly lost.

How has the iPad change the world?

The iPad hasn't changed the world like nuclear power or the internet or sliced bread. It has stopped a lot of traditional laptop sales. The iPad uses a lot less materials to manufacture, and it uses less power to charge, so it has saved raw materials and energy.
