Static electricity is the result of creating a charge by rubbing two objects together. The positively charged objected with accepted electrons from the negatively charged item giving it an electric charge.

The material with the looser electrons looses some of its electrons to the other material and it becomes positively charged while the object obsorbing electrons becomes negatively charged... r u in 8th grade looking for this answer because that's how I found this... haha

  • Material A could be donating electrons to the object C. Since it has less electrons now, Material A takes on a positive charge (electrons are negative, remember). And object C becomes more negative (more electrons)
  • Material B could be accepting electrons from the object. With excess electrons, it will be charged negatively. And object C would become less negative (or more positive)

This happens because dry air contains less amount of moisture. Though air is an insulator, sometimes the moisture present in it conducts these charges. Since moisture is missing in dry air, charging happens best in dry weather.
