When light passes through one medium into another at an angle 'Refraction' takes place. This is caused by the light wave's change in speed as it enters a different medium such as from air to water.

It's reflection is cast differently, depending on what it is shone on. And you do realize that color is a reflection of light, with the non-showing colors being absorbed into the item. For example if you're wearing a yellow shirt all of the colors, accept for yellow, are absorbed into the fabric. A white shirt merely reflects all colors and a black shirt absorbs all of the colors, which is why it is so hot.

This seems confusing for some people because they think that black is all colors combined and white is the absence of color. The reason it is the opposite of that is because of what was explained in the first paragraph. If you want to see an example, get a prism or crystal and shine a flashlight onto it in the dark. You'll notice that the white light is divided into the various colors of the rainbow, but once the light is shut off and no colors are reflected, the room becomes dark again as all color in the room is absorbed without light.

Various materials behave the same way depending on whether they are absorbing (or porous) or if they are reflective (or shiny).

It usually reflects back on the light object, but whenever it doesn't it, it goes through the transperent object.

Sound travels the slowest through which of these?

The speed of sound in a material is dependent on several factors. Basically it travels through denser materials at a different rate than rarefied materials, through compressible materials at a different rate than incompressible materials, and through stiffer materials at a different rate than nonrigid materials. A slower velocity of sound would be noted in a dense, compressible nonrigid material.

Which of the following types of waves travels at a different speed through different materials?

light waves

How well does sound travel through different materials?

It travels fastest through solids, slowest through gases, and liquids are in the middle.

Which the materials sound travels fastest?

Sound travels fastest through nonporous solids such as iron.

What happens to white light as it travels through a prism?

The light is refracted (bent) causing it to separate into different colors.

What happens when light waves travel through materials?

Light travels through different things (such as air, water, glass, plastic) at different speeds. When a light wave is passing one substance and encounters another (for instance, traveling through air and gets to glass), the difference in the speed causes the light wave to bend. This is what causes rainbows and a spectrum and fish to appear in a different place than where they really are.

What happens to matter when sound travels through it?

It vibrates.

Why sound travels in different speed in different materials?

because the speed is the tang ina

What the material through which light travels?

Light travels though a medium called "space-time" and can also travel through transparent and translucent physical materials.

What happens when light travels through a pair of eyeglasses?

It is refracted

What materials can light travel through faster than it travels through air?

Light travels fastest through space which has no air. Space is a vacuum which is the fastest way for light to travel.
