Best Answer

Alpha particles are the strongest of the three known types of radiation (alpha, beta, & gamma). Although the strongest, the alpha particles are the least penetrating.

They do not tend to penetrate any substance.

A well-known example is your skin. Alpha particles do not penetrate your skin barrier. However, alpha particles energy is high and is a cause of skin cancer and genetic mutations.

Alpha radiation is stopped quickly by anything solid. Alpha particles are helium nuclei (two protons and two neutrons) meaning they have a +2 net charge, so they're big, slow and electromagnetic. That's why alpha radiation exposure does all its damage on the skin.

Which nuclear radiation can be stopped by paper?

Alpha.

Name the nuclear radiation that can be easily stopped by skin or cloths?

alpha particles.

Which barrier can alpha pass through?

Alpha radiation is stopped easily by thin substances such as a sheet of paper or the skin. It is because of this that alpha radiation is generally non-harmful to humans.

How can alpha be stopped?

Alpha radiation can be stopped by pretty much anything: 5 cm of air, a piece of paper, skin, etc. Alpha particles are not dangerous unless inhaled, so skin is a safe solution.

Can beta radiation be stopped by a piece of paper?

Alpha radiation is absorbed by a sheet of paper; beta radiation is absorbed by a person; gamma radiation is absorbed by a stell wall. However, small amounts of gamma radiation can still be absorbed by a person.

Why is the nuclear reactor surrounded by a thick concrete layer?

To stop radiation leaking out. Alpha and Beta types of radiation will be stopped by the concrete

What is alpha beta gama?

they are the 3 types of radiation: alpha is the weakest and can be stopped by paper, beta is the medium strength and can be stopped by aluminum and gamma is the strongest and can only be stopped by several millimeters of lead gamma is the only radiation that is able to pass through anti radiation suits altha beta anf gamma are also the first 3 letters of the greek alphabet

Which form of nuclear radiation is least damaging to humans?

Alpha, from outside the body, because alpha is stopped by the skin, a sheet of paper, or a few inches of air. From inside the body, however, alpha is one of the most dangerous forms of radiation.

What is is the penetrating power of alpha radiation?

Alpha particles have a large mass and are easily absorbed and thus can only travel a few inches from their sources in air and will easily be absorbed by clothing. That being said if the source is ingested alpha particles are the most damaging form of radiation having a strong ionizing effect on their surroundings due to their high charge.

Is alpha radiation a ionization radiation?

Yes, alpha radiation is an ionizing radiation.

What type of radiation has the least ability to penetrate matter?

The Least penetrating form of radiation is Alpha as it only travels 10cm in air and is stopped by paper. Alpha is also the most ionising, Beta is less ionising still and Gamma is the least ionising as photons carry no charge so they have less effect.
