Best Answer

Hydrometer is nothing but a tube kept floated in the liquid.

If we keep the same weight within the tube then it is known as constant weight hydrometer.

So it would immerse more in less denser liquid and the depth of immersion will be more

So density of the liquid = Depth of immersion in water / depth of immersion in the liquid

Why- The lower end of hydrometer is filled with mercury or lead?

The lower end of a hydrometer is filled with mercury or lead because these heavy metals have a high density. This allows the hydrometer to float vertically in a liquid and provide accurate measurements of its specific gravity or density. The heavy metal helps to counterbalance the weight of the stem and bulb of the hydrometer.

What does a hydrometer measure?

Hydrometer measure the density of liquids.

Why mercury is used in hydrometer?

A hydrometer consists of a cylindrical stem and a bulb weighted with mercury or lead shot to make it float upright. Mercury has a higher density, thus a lower volume for the same weight than lead. It is a toxic liquid metal, but also more dangerous and difficult to clear up the mess when a glass hydrometer is broken

Why is the scale of a hydrometer non linear?

The volume displaced to indicate a given change in Specific Gravity; e,g., 0.001, is less in higher SG liquids. If you do the math for a typical lab hydrometer, you will find that in a liquid with a SG near 1.100, you will have about 20% less stem travel than when it is near water at 1.000. The key to remember is that the weight of the liquid displaced is equal to the total weight of the hydrometer, not just the portion of it that is submerged.

How does a hydrometer measure density?

It measured by the density of the size from the hydrometer.

Does the weight of an apple increases or decreases or remain constant when taken to the top of mountain?

the weight will decrease

Why is constant weight important?

Yes a constant weight would be important to maintain or gain muscle mass. Constant weight fluctuations are not a good thing, a pound wont matter

What device used to measure the strength of brine solution?

Salinometer

When was the hydrometer invented?

The hydroscope (also called the hydrometer) is thought to be invented by Hypatia of Alexandria. If this is true, the first hydroscope was invented in the 4th century.

If mass is constant and weight is a force that depends on location why is weight on Earth independent of location?

The gravity on Earth is constant.

What caused the development of hydrometer?

A hydrometer is used to find the specific gravity (or relative density) of liquids.
