fission is splitting of heavier and unstable nucleus into lighter nucleus'. in the fission process mass of the parent nucleus is more than the sum of the mass of the daughter nuclei,so this mass defect is converted into energy according to Einstein's formula E=mc^2,hence giving off a huge energy.uncontrolled emission of this energy causes explosion of huge magnitude,as in atom bombs or the chernobyl explosion in Russia.however this fission energy can be controlled in a nuclear reactor using moderator and graphite rod with suitable techniques, giving rise to a clean and efficient source of energy.this is applieid in the nuclear plants.

fusion is fusing of two lighter nuclei in presence of huge energy to produce a heavier nuclei.this process in turns releases even more energy which is quite large compared to even fission process!!!however this fusion cannot be controlled in a suitable environment as in fission,so it's only technical manifestation has been observed iin hydrogen bombs, which are much more powerful than atom bombs.some experiments confirm occurence of fusion at cryogenic temperatures, known as cold fusion, but researches are still going oon in that field.

so we may conclude from a humanitarian and apllicative point of view, fission is better and more useful than fusion.

Point of factThe explosion at the Chernobyl power plant was not thermonuclear in its nature. Had it been there would be nothing whatsoever remaining of the surrounding buildings. This is not the case. It was, however, a very large explosion. It decimated one side of the building that housed it and released vast amounts of radioactive material into the atmosphere. It should be noted that Chernobyl was, at the time an experimental type of reactor that was based on a tried & tested British design which had been safely operating for several years. It is believed that the lack of suitably trained operations staff led to critical oversights in the monitoring of the reactor, and ultimately the explosion. There are fission reactors based on the same design that are still functioning safely and efficiently today. Which Is Better?Fission is better because fusion is so powerful that it would release a massive amount of energy that could destroy the entire planet.

Why is fusion preferred over fission?

Fusion is preferred over fission because it produces more energy with less radioactive waste and is less prone to accidents. Fusion reactions use isotopes of hydrogen, which are abundant and non-radioactive, as fuel. Additionally, fusion does not produce long-lived radioactive waste like fission reactions do.

Which do you currently use nuclear fusion or fission?

I currently use nuclear fusion.

Can fission occur after fusion?

No, fission and fusion are two distinct nuclear reactions. Fusion involves the joining of atomic nuclei to release energy, while fission involves the splitting of atomic nuclei. They are not directly connected processes, so fusion does not lead to fission.

Is fission and fusion opposite?

Fission and fusion are opposite nuclear processes. Fission involves splitting a heavy nucleus into lighter ones, releasing energy, while fusion involves combining lighter nuclei to form a heavier nucleus, also releasing energy.
